The standard typeface for the ServiceNow platform is Arial. It will be used consistently and appropriate sizing and emphasis will be specified for attributes and placement.

Capitalizing Labels and Text

All interface element labels should use either title style capitalization or sentence style capitalization.

Title style capitalization means that you capitalize every word except:

Articles (a, an, the)
Coordinating conjunctions (and, or)
Prepositions of four or fewer letters, except when the preposition is part of a verb phrase, as in “Starting Up the Computer.”

In title style, always capitalize the first and last word, even if it is an article, a conjunction, or a preposition of four or fewer letters.

Sentence style capitalization means that the first word is capitalized, and the rest of the words are lowercase, unless they are proper nouns or proper adjectives.

Do not use all caps.

Ending Punctuation

If the text forms a complete sentence, end the sentence with proper punctuation; otherwise, don't add ending punctuation.

When writing messaging such as an alert or notification do not use ending punctuation.

End User Messaging

Keep end user messages concise and down to a single sentence. Do not use words such as "please" or "we." All end user messaging must be localized.

Using Italics

We use italics to distinguish and emphasize certain words from others within the text. It is important not to overdo the use of italics to emphasize words. After a while, it loses its effect and the language starts to sound like something out of a comic book.

Italics do not include punctuation marks (end marks or parentheses, for instance) next to the words being italicized unless those punctuation marks are meant to be considered as part of what is being italicized.

Lowercase letters allow you to catch the words without actually reading them, because your eyes are familiar with the shapes of most words.

Align Text to the Left

Justified text is difficult to read, because it has uneven spaces between words. This doesn't let your eyes rest, they always have to make a new jump to the next word.

Set Enough Space Between Lines

The line-height shouldn't be less than (font-size + 2)
