Issue

An update set is a group of configuration that can be moved from one instance to another instance.By using the update sources, we can able to fetch the update set in our instance directly by specifying the URL of ServiceNow target instance and credentials of that URL in Update Source.

When you are trying to configure Update Source in the instance by defining another instance name, it is giving error "Authentication to remote instance failed" even after using the correct credentials.

Cause

An issue with authentication using the configured credential.

Resolution

You can try below steps to fix the issue:

- Make sure to verify the credentials are correct by login into the instance in a separate 

- Refer KB0723537

- Make sure the username you are using to authenticate to the source instance does not have Multi-Factor Authentication Enabled.

For high privileged roles, the role required is admin
