Description

A large amount of outside calls to /api/now/pattern_library/GetCITypes are maxing out semaphores on both nodes resulting in performance impact.  Transactions appear to be coming from midserver users.

Example log below:

2020-03-03 01:21:57 (565) Default-thread-10 <sessionid> txid=<txid> *** Start #<exampleID> /api/now/pattern_library/GetCITypes, user: <Mid_Server_User>
2020-03-03 01:21:57 (681) http-48 SYSTEM New transaction <sessionid> #<exampleID> /api/now/pattern_library/GetCITypes
2020-03-03 01:21:57 (697) Default-thread-14 <sessionid> txid=<txid> #<exampleID> /api/now/pattern_library/GetCITypes Parameters -------------------------
2020-03-03 01:21:57 (698) Default-thread-14 <sessionid> txid=<txid> *** Start #<exampleID> /api/now/pattern_library/GetCITypes, user: <Mid_Server_User>
2020-03-03 01:21:57 (931) http-34 SYSTEM New transaction <sessionid> #<exampleID> /api/now/pattern_library/GetCITypes

Steps to Reproduce

Root cause not determined.  To be further updated as information is gathered.

Workaround

Current workaround once impacted is as follows:

  1. Reach out to technical support to restart the instance.
  2. To prevent further impact, reach out to support to change the path for API_INT in the semaphore table.  Be mindful of the workaround, as moving the call to API INT semaphore may help reduce memory footprint but can result in performance issues with other integration incoming calls if GetCITypes takes a while.
