Unable to edit fields on variable editor within RITM record

KB Summary by Now Assist

Issue

Users may run into an issue where certain fields are marked as read-only on the variable editor portion of a Requested Item (RITM), even though those variables have write roles assigned that should allow them to modify the fields.

Release

All releases

Cause

This can be caused by containers that have different roles assigned.  For example, if a variable with a write role of "ITIL" is within a container with a write role of "nobody," then the variable will be read-only on the RITM to a user with the ITIL role.

Resolution

If they are present, remove the write roles on the container variables within the Catalog Item that spawned the RITM record.  It is not recommended to use write roles on containers in general.
