Description

New Google customers can not use dynamic scheduling due to an invalid API key. The error message below is shown when a valid google Map API key is provided but there is no valid Client ID and private key:

Invalid Google Maps API Key: Travel time calculated using straight-line distancesSelect a task to Auto Assign.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Provide the valid google Map API key in System Properties > Google Maps.
NOTE: New customers can not upgrade to premium, thus will not have any client ID or private key provided.

2. Login as a dispatcher.

3. Go to the Dispatch Queue.

4. Click Auto-Assign on any work order task. Observe the error:
Invalid Google Maps API Key: Travel time calculated using straight-line distancesSelect a task to Auto Assign.

Workaround

This problem has been fixed in New York. If you are able to upgrade, review the Fixed In section to determine the latest version with a permanent fix your instance can be upgraded to.

The workaround in Madrid or earlier is the following:

  1. Apply the workaround https://hi.service-now.com/kb_view.do?sysparm_article=KB0723599 
    2. Re-upload banner image for the instance, and change the value of system property "glide.product.image" to "logo_service-now" 
    3. Turn on Geocoding and Distance Matrix function for the API key 
    4. Make sure the locations of the tasks and agents have valid addresses and latitude and longitude.
