Symptoms

A red asterisk appears near the read-only non-mandatory time_care.short_description field on the timecard form. The UI Policy to make task.short_description read-only is not working for non-admin users.

Red mandatory asterisk appears near greyed out field for time_card user without admin access. (Incorrect)

  1. Login as admin impersonate a timecard_user/itil user
    2. Filter Nav >Time Card > My Time Sheets
    3. Select Current (This Week)
    4. Scroll down and select Timecard > New
    5. Notice that there is a red asterisk near the Short Description field, but they field is read only (greyed out)

  1. Login as admin impersonate an admin user
    2. Filter Nav >Time Card > My Time Cards (All)
    3. Timecards > New
    4. Notice that there is no red asterisk near the Short Description field and the the field is read only (greyed out)

 

 

 

Attempt to perform a dictionary override for time_card.short_description

  1. Login as admin impersonate an admin user
    2. Filter Nav > sys_dictionary.list
    3. Filter for the task.short_description field and open it:
    4. From the Dictionary Overrides tab select New
    5. From the Table drop-down field enter time_card
    6. Note that the time_card table is not available as a choice

Cause

When you create a new dictionary override record for task.short_description the table time_card will not appear because it is does not extend the task table. The time_card.short_description column is only a reference column.

Also, if you impersonate the non-admin user and view the records in the task table from task.list you can see that this user does not have access to the short description field.

 

Resolution

Grant the affected non-admin users access to task.short_description through a role.
