Description

Some Windows Servers and IP Switches are getting serial numbers starting with symbol "." or "'" from Pattern "Windows OS - Servers" and "SNMP Identify"

The strange serial numbers are from:

a). step "Serial number from Win32_BaseBoard" in Pattern "Windows OS - Servers" (Windows - Hardware information library)

b). step "Get another Cisco chassis serial number" in Pattern "Network Switch" (SNMP Identify library)

Steps to Reproduce

- Check Discovery Pattern logs for the Windows Servers and IP Switches and search for the strange serial number

- Debug "Windows OS - Servers" pattern and test step "Serial number from Win32_BaseBoard"

- Debug "Network Switch" pattern and test step "Get another Cisco chassis serial number"

Workaround

  • Windows Server serial number issue can be fixed by "OSs - Pre Sensor" Pattern Pre/Post Script as attached
  • Network Switch serial number issue can be fixed by updating "SNMP Identify" Pattern library as attached
