Symptoms


Retiring the knowledge article throws message "This knowledge item has been published" and doesn't retire the article

Cause


There is no owner or manager configured under knowledge base

Resolution


Add a manager or owner to the knowledge base resolves the issue. So when we retire the knowledge article, the attached workflow "knowledge - Approval Retire" will send approval request to owner or the manager of the knowledge base. Once the request is approved, the knowledge article gets automatically retired
