Description

Attachments in Microsoft Edge (found on 42.171) are downloaded as sys_attachment.do instead of their correct names and extensions. Once the file is downloaded, it is saved as "sys_attachment.do". Due to this, the file cannot be opened in the system, and the name and extension have to be changed manually to access them.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Open a pre-Madrid instance using MS Edge browser (Windows 10).
  2. Navigate to an incident form.
  3. Upload a properly named file as an attachment.
  4. Attempt to download the file.
Observe the prompt at the bottom of the page displaying, regardless of the attached file name: "What do you want to do with 'sys_attachment.png'".

  1. Open a pre-Madrid instance using MS Edge browser (Windows 10).
  2. Navigate to any record which has an attachment.
  3. Download the attachment. You will get a pop up to save the document - sys_attachment.do
  4. Navigate to the folder where the attachment is saved.
Observe the file is saved as sys_attachment.do, and not the correct file name and extension. The file can not be accessed by the user, as the system identifies the extension as *.do which is not recognized.

Workaround

This problem is under review and targeted to be fixed in a future release. Please review the Fixed In section to determine the latest available patch your instance can be upgraded to. You can Subscribe to this article to receive notifications when more information will become available.

As a workaround, use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, or in MS Edge retrieve the stored file and rename it with the correct extension so it can be accessed by the parent record.
