[NDS\CMDB Models] After enabling Normalization Data Services plugin, duplicate models occur while running Discovery

KB Summary by Now Assist

Description

After activating the Normalization Data Services plugin, the models are duplicated. The models in each run are created for each run instead of updating the existing one.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Activate the Normalization Data Services plugin.

  2. Make sure the properties are set to true.

    • glide.cmdb.canonical.discovery.enabled is supposed to allow discovery to make use of MakeAndModel normalization.
    • glide.cmdb.canonical.always_run runs at the business rule level and is intended to allow imports to be normalized
  3. Run discovery on any device.

After completing the discovery, note duplicate models in the cmdb_model table.

Workaround

Turnng the glide.cmdb.canonical.always_run system property off should solve the duplication issue for future operations. If you need to address already-affected models, contact ServiceNow Customer Support for assistance.
  1. Navigate to User Administration > Normalization Data Services > Properties.
  2. Set the properties as shown in the following illustration.
