Description

When a Trend report is built on Catalog Items where more than one have the same name, the report may look different each time it is loaded. The chart displays results for only one of those items, so all other items with that name will not be represented on the chart. Including the grid makes this obvious.

For example, a Trend chart grouping sc_req_item.cat_item per month with two distinct items having the same Name (for example, Password Reset) will only show one of these items in the chart. However, both will show up on the grid.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Create a Trend report on sc_req_item table with the following filter:

    • Opened - on - Last 3 months
    • Group by: Item
    • Trend by: Opened
    • per: Month
    • Aggregation: Count
    • Display Grid: Ticked
  2. Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definition > Maintain Items

  3. Create a new catalog item using the same name of an existing item.

Notice for each execution, results in the chart will vary, displaying both items one at the time. However, the grid confirms that the results are correct. The legenda has only one item for the reference (based on Name) and the report varies in the retrieved data.

Workaround

This problem has been fixed in Kingston. On earlier instances that can not be upgraded yet, change the name of the reference fields, so that two fields can never have the same name.
