MID Server service on Linux won't start with error in wrapper log stating the mid.pid file already exists

Issue

MID Server won't start with the following error in the wrapper.log file:

2017/09/07 17:54:56 | ERROR: Could not write pid file ../agent/work/mid.pid: Inappropriate ioctl for device
2017/09/07 18:48:32 | 4092 pid file, ../agent/work/mid.pid, already exists.

Solution

A situation could occur where a process with the pid exists but it is not the correct process. Although this can happen in a number of cases, the most common is during system startup after an unclean shutdown. Usually the mid.sh script will handle these situations. However, if the pid file is still stale, rename the mid.pid file in the /agent/work directory and try to start the MID Server service again to bring the MID Server up.
