Description

After cloning from production down to a sub-production instance, attempting to activate a subscription based plugin on the sub-production instance results in the following error message:

Activation failed for plugin <plugin_name> because you need to purchase a subscription to install this plugin.

This issue is due to the ua_instance_state table not being excluded in the clone excludes table on Production.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Clone a production instance down over sub-production instance.
  2. Attempt to activate a plugin on the cloned sub-production instance that normally requires a subscription to activate on a production instance.

While the plugin should activate without issue, the plugin does not activate and instead the user is presented with the following error:

Activation failed for plugin <plugin_name> because you need to purchase a subscription to install this plugin.

Workaround

If you feel you have encountered this issue, follow these steps as a workaround:

  1. Download the attached xml file clone_data_exclude__PRB905758.xml and import it into the production instance, or else upgrade/patch production instance to Istanbul Patch 6 or greater.
  2. Either way, request a new clone from the production instance over sub-production instances.
  3. Once the clone has completed, activate desired subscription plugins on sub-production instances, as an admin user.
