Description

Non-hyperlinked tables of contents in Word documents are not imported into knowledge base articles correctly.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Navigate to one of the following:
    • Self-Service > Knowledge
    • Knowledge > Homepage
  2. Click Import Articles.
  3. Import the attached Word file named Test Numbering v2 Job Aid - v2.docx.
  4. In Knowledge base, select Knowledge.
  5. Click Import.
  6. Navigate to Knowledge > Articles > All.
  7. Open the article named Test Numbering v2 Job Aid - v2.
Note that the table of contents from the Word document (Test Numbering v2 Job Aid.docx) is missing. The table of contents should be imported correctly.

Workaround

Only hyperlinked tables of contents can be imported. To regenerate the table of contents as a hyperlinked version:

  1. Open the Word document.
  2. Delete the existing table of contents.
  3. On the toolbar, navigate to References > Table of contents > Custom Table of Contents.
  4. In Formats, select an option (for example, Formal).
  5. Click OK.
  6. Select the entire table of contents.
  7. Right-click on the selected table of contents and select Toggle Field Codes.
The table of contents changes to something similar to { TOC \O "1-3" }.
  8. Update the code to { TOC \O "1-3" \H }.
If the \H is already present, you do not need to make any changes.
  9. Right-click on the code and select Update Field.
  10. Select Update entire table.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Save the Word document.
  13. Import the Word document into the Knowledge module (as described in the Steps to Reproduce section).
  14. Verify that the table of contents is displayed correctly in the new knowledge base article.
