Description

In Service Portal, when a variable set with layout of "2 Columns Wide, alternating sides" includes variables surrounded by containers, these variables are alternating incorrectly. For every pair of columns, the first variable displays on the right column, and the second variable displays on the left column.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Navigate to System Definition > Plugins and activate the Service Portal for Enterprise Service Management plugin.

  2. Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definitions > Maintain Items and click New.

  3. Create a catalog item named test and click Submit.

  4. Select the item and under Related Links, go to Variable Sets, and click New.

  5. Create a variable set with the following values:

    Name: Test VS
Layout: 2 Columns Wide, alternating sides

  6. Create four variables in the variable set of type Single Line Text and the following values

    • Name: server_1
      Order: 1
    • Name: server_2
      Order: 2
    • Name: server_3
      Order: 3
    • Name: server_4
      Order: 4
  7. Click Submit after creating each variable.

  8. Create a Container Start variable in the variable set with Order: 0 and click Submit.

  9. Create a Container End variable in the variable set with Order: 5 and click Submit.

  10. View the catalog item in Service Portal.

Note that instead of the catalog item variables rendering the servers in numeric order, they instead appear in the following order in Service Portal: Server Name 2, Server Name 1, Server Name 4, and Server Name 3.

Workaround

The intent with Service Portal is to enable our customers to provide modern, easy-to-use, device agnostic experiences for their end users or requestors. We do not intend to provide full feature parity between the Platform experience and the Service Portal experience. However, we do understand that you may have built out catalog item forms that are fairly complex and do not render well in the Service Portal today. Hopefully, the updates provided in the link below will help you overcome some of those challenges.

https://community.servicenow.com/community/service-automation-platform/blog/2017/05/05/service-catalog-on-service-portal

If they do not, there is an update set within the link that adds 2 new fields to the sc_cat_item table using iFrames but has changes that mask the iFrame experience.

Before using the update set, please understand:

  • This approach is not a product offering, but only provided as an option that you can use, if you choose to do so. There will be NO SUPPORT for this.
  • This is intended to be a short-term option so you can continue to use the Service Catalog on the Service Portal, while you set in motion plans to transform your catalog item forms to fit the Service Portal experience.
