Service Catalog: Nested containers used to create more than two column layouts in catalog items not rendering properly in Service Portal

When using nested containers to create layouts with more than two columns, the catalog item displays differently in Service Catalog than in Service Portal. The layouts provide predictable results in Service Catalog, but in Service Portal, the third column appears below the first two.

 

1. Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Definitions > Maintain Items and select an item.

2. In the catalog item, create a container with the layout "Two Columns, alternating sides."

   For more information about container variables, see KB0539982.

3. Create two containers with the layout with the layout "Two Columns, alternating sides" inside the first container.

4. Add two variables to each of the new containers.

5. View the item in Service Portal.

   Note that instead of four columns with one variable per column, only one Column is displayed.
