If the ESX server is down or is in maintenance mode during vCenter Discovery, the scan fails completely.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Do one of the following:
    • Shut down the ESX host
    • Put the server in maintenance mode
  2. Run a vCenter Discovery.
    Note that the Input value for VMWarevCenterProbe in the ECC Queue shows this error:

    TypeError: Cannot convert null to an object


  1. Reboot the ESX host.
  2. Run vCenter Discovery again.

NOT RECOMMENDED: The VCenter probe is a javascript probe - so you can modify it to handle the null check. However, it will create an update set, so no new ServiceNow updates will be applied.

Note: In versions listed in the Fixed In section below, Discovery will still publish the error message if it encounters a vCenter component that is unresponsive, but will skip that component and continue the scan.
