The execution plan total delivery time calculation in days is inconsistent with the execution plan task time total.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Log in to any OOB or demo Express instance.

  2. Navigate to Service Catalog > Catalog Policies > Execution Plans and click New.

  3. Specify a name, for On Calendar add the calendar Monday thru Friday (9-5), and click Submit.

The Total delivery time field is blank because no Execution Plan Tasks are present yet.

  4. Create a new execution plan task for the new plan.

    1. Under Execution Plan Tasks, click New.

    2. Provide a name.

    3. For Delivery time, specify a certain number of days.

    4. Click Submit.

Note that the Total delivery time field on the parent plan shows a calculation of the specified number of days + 5.

  5. Repeat step 4.

Note that the Total delivery time field on the parent plan has added some more extra days, making the total inconsistent.

This is expected behavior.

The confusion occurs because setting the calendar to Monday thru Friday (9-5) defines each "day" as being 8 hours long but the task Delivery time day is 24 hours. Therefore, if you create a task that takes 1 day (24 hours), the plan will calculate the task as needing 3 work days (which are 8 hours each) for the total delivery time. Similarly, if a task takes 2 days (48 hours), the plan will calculate 8 days of total delivery time: 6 work days of 8 hours each and, because 6 days is longer than the 5-day work week, 2 weekend days.

When assigning delivery times, keep this calculation process in mind.
