Missing SPAM Headers | X-ServiceNow-Spam-Flag

Purpose
The purpose of this document is to explain why some email headers do not contain X-ServiceNow-Spam-Flag or X-ServiceNow-Virus headers.

Description

A list of headers is displayed when viewing email from the email log. Starting with the Fuji release, all emails should be scanned for SPAM scoring. The scan should assign a SPAM score and indicate if an email is infected with a known virus. Here are some examples of the expected headers:

X-ServiceNow-Spam-Flag:NO
X-ServiceNow-Spam-Score:1.428
X-ServiceNow-Spam-Level:*
X-ServiceNow-Spam-Status:No, score=1.428 tagged_above=0 required=6.2

Headers from a message with a high spam score:

X-ServiceNow-Spam-Flag:YES
X-ServiceNow-Spam-Score:999
X-ServiceNow-Spam-Level:****************************************************************
X-ServiceNow-Spam-Status:Yes, score=999 tagged_above=0 required=6.2

Headers from a message with a virus-infected attachment:

X-ServiceNow-Virus:INFECTED, message contains virus: Eicar-Test-Signature

The following information is true at the time this document was published:

  • It is possible for none of the headers to be present, even if the SPAM scanning has occurred - if the SPAM score is less than 0.0, no headers are added to the email
  • If the score is greater than 6.2, the email is flagged as SPAM
