Data Policy Behaving incorrectly

4647 Views Last updated : Sep 26, 2025 public Copy Permalink
KB Summary by Now Assist

Description

In certain cases a data policy does not behave correctly and throws an error stating that the policy has been violated when it has not. This applies both to data policy on integrations and UI.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Log in to the demo instance.
  2. Go to System Policy > Rules > Data Policies.
  3. Create a new Data Policy:
    • Table: knowledgebase
    • Field: short description, read only = true
    • Condition: workflow is not Draft
    • Other fields remain default
    • Enter a short description, and click Submit.
  4. Notice the message appears: Data Policy Exception: Short description is read only
    Invalid update

Workaround

  1. Uncheck Use as UI Policy on client on the data policy.
  2. Create a UI policy that has the same effect as the data policy.

After carefully considering the severity and frequency of the issue, and the cost and risk of attempting a fix, it has been decided to not address this issue in any current or near future releases. We do not make this decision lightly, and we apologize for any inconvenience.
